Tree Planting event to take place at Sturgeon Heights Community Hall Saturday Sept. 21

A tree planting at the Sturgeon Heights Community Hall is happening in Valleyview Saturday, September 21.

Valleyview Home Hardware Store Owner Heather McKinnon says the plant is part of an annual program conducted nationally in partnership with Tree Canada.

“We partnered up with the Sturgeon Heights Community Hall for planting trees around the playground and property around the hall,” McKinnon says. “That hall gets used a lot for group events and stuff throughout the summer, so it just helps to provide some shade and beautification at the site.”

McKinnon says they will be planting 20 mature trees of different species.

“There are six elm trees being planted that are about 12 to 15 feet in height already,” she says. “and then there are 12 white spruce. Klon Nurseries is also donating six of the trees to the plant as well, so they’ve added six trees to our project.”

She says the public is invited to come by and lend a hand for this community event.

“A bunch of the locals from Sturgeon Heights have agreed to come to the tree plant tomorrow,” she says. “They’re doing a potluck in the afternoon, some games for the kids and making an event of it. Which is fantastic, it should be a nice community event for sure.”

The planting begins Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
