Heavy police presence in effect at Atikameg First Nation

Update from Oct 31 at 7:45 p.m. – High Prairie RCMP is advising the public that the increased police presence within the Atikameg First Nation has ended.

An update is expected as more information becomes available.

High Prairie RCMP would like to thank the public for their understanding.

High Prairie RCMP is making the public aware of a heavy police presence at Atikameg First Nation.

According to Mounties, 23-year-old Paval Laboucan fled from RCMP earlier today (Thursday, October 31) and there is now a “significant number of resources focused on apprehending this individual and protecting the public.”

Residents are asked to not post any photos of responding officers on social media, and if they do see Paval Laboucan, to not approach and call 911.

Laboucan is described as:

  • Six foot
  • 175 lbs
  • Black hair
  • Brown eyes

Mounties added, “We understand how situations such as this can make a community feel uneasy, but rest assured, your Alberta RCMP is working tirelessly to locate this individual.”
