Farm Credit Canada is dispersing $1.5-million to 82 community groups throughout the country to support rural capital projects.

The money is coming out of the FCC AgriSpirit Fund, which has supported nearly 1,700 projects over the past two decades, totalling over $22.5-million worth of investments made.

This year, three Peace Region non-profits/charities will be benefitting from the funding.

The Friends of Rycroft School Society has been granted $10,000 to purchase a fridge and freezer for the school’s food assistance program.

The Grande Prairie Youth Emergency Shelter Society will get $18,500 to create garden boxes, a greenhouse, and introduce indoor hydroponics to their space.

Lastly, Falher’s Guy Donnelly Sportex Society has been awarded with $25,000 to install a chiller in their arena to run the ice plant.

FCC’s senior vice-president of ag production for Western operations Jack Affleck said in a news release; “Through the FCC AgriSpirit Fund, we’re investing in capital projects that enhance the quality of life and foster growth in these communities. From improving food security to enhancing community spaces, these projects are a testament to the creativity and dedication of those committed to building a brighter future for rural Canada.”

The grants were between $10,000 to $25,000 to go to charities, non-profits, municipalities, First Nations governments/communities, for various improvements in communities with fewer than 150,000 people.
