Local football player featured on national NFL broadcast

A local Grande Prairie football player received national attention on Sunday, November 17, as he was featured on TSN for his 100-yard kick-off return.

St. Joseph Catholic Celtic kick returner, Alex Hiemstra won the Week 11 NFL Canada Way to Play award, after being nominated by his coach Aaron Wales.

The award was designed to encourage and reinforce good technique while investing in Canadian high school and CEGEP tackle football programs.

With Hiemstra’s success, he was featured on an NFL CTV broadcast and earned St. Joe’s $3,000 for new equipment.
