County of Grande Prairie shares alternative services without Canada Post

Nov 20, 2024 | 2:12 PM

The County of Grande Prairie is trying to limit the effects of the ongoing Canada Post strike for residents.

Measures are now being taken to either have important or urgent mail sent by an alternative courier, while departments will also communicate with residents through e-mail or make items available for pick-up.

The county has provided a full breakdown of how each department will operate over the strike:

Accounts Payable:

  • Vendor/supplier cheques and customer invoices will be made available for pick up, unless Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) is requested. Those impacted will be contacted directly.

Agriculture:

  • Invoices to neighbouring municipalities will be dropped off by County staff.

County Library Services:

  • The Peace Library System inter-library courier will continue to deliver items as normal.

Family and Community Support Services (FCSS):

  • All home support clients will be notified regarding making payments over the phone or in person. Should the disruption continue, December invoices will be emailed to vendors, and printed invoices will be delivered to home support clients.

Planning and Development:

  • Permit applications can be made in person at the County Administrative Building or by downloading forms at www.countygp.ab.ca/permits and emailing the completed forms to plan@countygp.ab.ca. Payments will be accepted in person or by phone using a credit card.
  • Applications requiring notice to adjacent landowners will be held until the end of the postal strike. Email-based referrals will continue. View scheduled public hearings at www.countygp.ab.ca/publicnotices.
  • For questions regarding these processes, please call the Planning and Development department at 780-513-3950.

Records and Information Management:

  • Printed records can be made available for pick up or sent by courier.

Recreation and Culture:

  • Cheques for grants and sponsorships can be requested for pick up at the County Administrative Building. Urgent items will be sent via courier.

Regional Enforcement Services:

  • Dog owners can pick up tags in person at the Community Services Building or the County Administrative Building.

Regional Fire Service

  • Invoices related to insurance claims will be emailed, as required.
