Grouard local wins $100,000 from a holiday scratch-and-win

Nov 20, 2024 | 2:48 PM

A man from Grouard will spend the holidays treating his mom to a new vehicle thanks to a $100,000 scratch-and-win windfall.

Keith Nanooch said “I was on my way to see my grandparents and stopped to buy some tickets,” at the Chevron on 53 Avenue in High Prairie.

He added, “I saw the holiday ones had been released,” and purchased a $5 ELF scratch and win.

When Nanooch scratched the ticket, he was so surprised he went back into town to get the ticket scanned twice. He then told his mom about his win and she didn’t believe him at first, so he pulled up the app and “we both sat there in disbelief.”

Nanooch said when it comes to winning, “it feels really good,” as “the last couple of years have been tough.”

Nanooch will now share the winnings with his mom; paying off some debt, buying her a new vehicle, and fixing up her house.

He added, “It’s so cool to actually get the big win, It’s just so unexpected! I feel like things are really turning around for us.”
