A 16-year-old Grande Prairie Piranhas swimmer has recorded a very respectable showing at the World Short Course Swimming Championships taking place in Budapest, Hungary.

Oliver Dawson finished eighth in his 200-metre breaststroke heat, putting him 21st overall.

Dawson’s time of 2:07.62 left him 4.55 seconds back of the first-place finisher in his heat an eventual bronze medalist, American A J Prouch.

Dawson was also 3.47 seconds back of the final qualifying spot for the final.

He is the reigning Canadian champion in this event.

Canada won two more medals on Friday, taking silver in the 4 x 50-metre mixed freestyle relay. Albertan Ingrid Wilm, along with two other multi-medalists at this competition, Ilya Kharun and Mary-Sophie Harvey and Yiri Kisil were on the relay team.
