Snowfall, extreme cold warnings in place

UPDATE 3 5:30 p.m.: The snowfall warnings for the County of Grande Prairie and MD of Greenview have ended.

UPDATE 2 3:30 p.m. Wednesday: The extreme cold warnings for Mackenzie County and the Paddle Prairie area have ended.

UPDATE: Wednesday, 12:00 p.m. Environment Canada says the County of Grande Prairie and MD of Greenview are still under snowfall warnings.

The weather office says there could be 10 to 15 centimetres of snow by the time the snow tapers off this evening.

The Whitecourt and Hinton areas are also under snowfall warnings.

An extreme cold warning is still in place for Mackenzie County and the Paddle Prairie area.

Environment Canada says the Alberta side of the Peace is now under snowfall or extreme cold warnings.

The snowfall warnings are in place for the County of Grande Prairie and the MD of Greenview and all of the communities within them.

The snow is expected to start Tuesday evening and spread eastward

Environment Canada says snowfall totals could reach 10 to 15 centimetres before easing off Wednesday evening.

The extreme cold warnings cover Birch Hills, Saddle Hills, Clear Hills, Mackenzie and Northern Sunrise counties, the County of Northern Lights, and the MDs of Fairview, Spirt River, Peace and Lesser Slave River, plus all the communities within their borders.

The weather office says the wind chill could hit -40 Tuesday night before conditions moderate Wednesday afternoon.

Many other areas of Alberta are also under snowfall and/or extreme cold warnings.
