MP Warkentin will “continue to push for an election” following Trudeau’s resignation announcement

Grande Prairie’s Member of Parliament has given his remarks following the Monday morning announcement from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of his resignation.

Chris Warkentin says Canadians have been expecting this for the past few weeks to month after the resignation of Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland.

“He looked at the polls, he looked at I guess his prospects of being re-elected, but decided to quit… but he’s not quitting yet. That I think is the important thing.”

Warkentin says Trudeau has given no indication of when he will step down and be replaced as the Liberal party leader.

He says though, it doesn’t matter who the replacement will be.

“What we know is the people who want to run to replace him as Prime Minister have been there the entire time, they’ve endorsed, supported, and cheerled everything that Justin Trudeau has done to destroy our country over the last 10 years.”

Regardless of who is in power in the Liberal party, Warkentin believes nothing will change, as all Liberal party members have endorsed the carbon tax and policies that have driven inflation and the cost of living.

He says Canadians should have the choice of the next Prime Minister.

“It shouldn’t be left up to the Liberal party and members of the ‘elite Liberal institution’ to choose.”

“I think it’s time for an election to allow Canadians to make the determination as to what kind of country that they want, what kind of policies they want moving forward, and I’m going to continue to push for an election.”

When asked about how this will affect the Conservative party, he said they’re going to focus on what Canadians need.

“They need a reset, a government that respects our working people that have struggled over the past number of years as we’ve seen Liberal inflation continue to devastate so many families across this country as we’ve seen Liberal policy has killed jobs and regions across the country, including the Peace Country.”

Warkentin says there is no guarantee for an election to happen before March. He says his party will continue to fight for an election at the earliest date possible.
