Local hockey player takes home KIJHL monthly award

A Grande Prairie local has been awarded the Top Defencemen of the Month award in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League. (KIJHL)

Trey Stephenson lugged some heavy minutes over the Kimberly Dynamiter’s eight-game stretch in December, averaging almost 23 minutes of ice time while mixing in a goal and nine assists for ten points in eight games.

Stephenson shined brightest against Castlegar on December 13, where he collected three helpers in an 8-2 win.

He followed that up by helping his Dynamiters down the Fernie Ghostriders in both Christmas Classics, as he assisted on game-winning goals in both games.

So far this season, Stephenson has only played 14 games but has already put up 19 points.
