Leadership change for Grande Prairie Regional Sport Connection

Jan 14, 2025 | 6:00 AM

The Grande Prairie Regional Sport Connection has seen a change in leadership.

Marketing and communications coordinator Heather Llewellyn is taking over as acting executive director from former executive director Karna Germsheid, who is taking a job with KidSport Northern Alberta.

Germsheid has been with the organization since it started 11 years ago.

“It has been my absolute privilege to work alongside the sport community over the past 11 years and to witness the incredible work being done by all of you. Every hour you put into your sport builds stronger, more connected communities but also contributes to the economy in ways that often go unnoticed. Your dedication creating opportunities for others, is nothing short of inspiring. Thank you for everything you do. Stay awesome!” says Germsheid in a release.

“While we will miss Karna’s leadership at the GPRSC, we are thrilled that she will continue to support the region’s sporting community through her work with KidSport,” adds board chair Julia Dutove in that same release.

The Sport Connection will host Try-It Day Saturday. Registration is open online. Kids aged 6 to 17 can pick from close to two dozen activities to try for free.

Also, nominations are open for the Northwest Alberta Sport Excellence Awards in 14 categories until January 31. The awards will be given out April 11.
