Grande Prairie Storm trade deadline recap

Jan 15, 2025 | 1:17 PM

Last week saw the trade deadline for all Canadian major Junior and Junior A hockey organizations.

The Friday, January 10 deadline saw the Grande Prairie Storm add a trio of players.; The first coming from a trade with the Bonnyville Pontiacs, as they acquired 2004-born forward and Kelowna product Kalius Green for future considerations.

So far this season, Green has 23 points in 27 games, finding the back of the net nine times, making him “a guy we had targeted for a while, as far back as 2021-2022” according to General Manager Mark Bomersback.

The Storm also welcomed two players through free agency, 2004-born forward Carter Streek of Kamloops and 2006-born defenceman Cade Kozak, a product of Minnesota.

In his junior career, Streek has over 190 games played in the WHL with Saskatoon and Spokane, which the Storm hopes will transfer over to leadership in the room, along with a more productive offence; “He’s a guy that is going to step in here and help with the offence, make our PP that much more dangerous and bring another level of competition to our line up. We like our group and what the older guys and younger guys have done up to this point. Adding a veteran like Carter takes this group to another level.”

The other new addition, rookie defencemen Cade Kozak is said to be a nice fit with the Storm’s already prospering D-core, as according to Bomersback, “Cade is a good skating, offensive-minded Dman who can move pucks, create offence, and get up and down the ice.”

Kozak will now join the Storm from the North America Hockey League’s Colorado Grit and make the long trip north, in order to join his fellow new additions when the Storm host a back-to-back against the Devon Xtreme starting on Friday, January 17.

With three new players joining the Storm, they did have to part with some, as forward Johnny Maruna was sent to Olds and defence Damian Palmeria was moved to Camrose, both for future considerations.

In the release, the Storm thanked both men for their “contributions to the organization and wish them the best with their new teams.”
