Grande Prairie beats temperature record on Monday

According to data from Environment Canada, Grande Prairie broke a maximum daily temperature record that had stood for over four decades .
The Swan City reached 7.2 degrees Celsius on January 27, breaking the previous record set back in 1984 of 6.9 degrees Celsius.
The average maximum daily temperature for January in Grande Prairie is -3.3 degrees Celsius, and 2025 has started out unseasonable warmer than usual.
The warm weather is not expected to stick around long, with the national weather office forecasting snow to fall in the Peace Region by the weekend with lows of -20 or greater.
