Storm goalie named in AJHL weekly awards
Grande Prairie Storm netminder Nicholas Jones has been named the AJHL’s Defensive Player of the Week after getting wins in his last three starts.
Over the course of the week, (January 20-26) Jones had a 5-1 win over Bonnyville and followed that up by posting a shutout in a 3-0 win over the Fort McMurray Oil Barons the next night.
Through those two games, Jones stopped 56 pucks out of the 57 he faced, for a .982 save percentage, and a .5 goals-against-average.
Jones who is now in his second season with the Storm, is ranked sixth in the AJHL for both goals against average and save percentage while leading the Storm to a 22-11-1 & 2 record, good for second in the North division behind Whitecourt.
