Hockey, Wolves, ski hills this weekend

NWJHL playoffs

There are two games in the Northwest Junior Hockey League playoffs Friday.

Beaverlodge is at the Wheat Kings for Game 1 of their series. It starts at 8 p.m.

Fort St. John in Fairview starts at 8:15. The home side trails 1-0 after a 3-1 loss in Fort St. John on Wednesday.

On Saturday, Fairview in Fort St. John for Game 2 and Dawson Creek in Peace River for Game both start at 8 p.m. The Navigators lead their series 1-0 after a 5-3 home win Thursday.

Also on Saturday, Sexsmith is in La Crete for Game 1 of their series. It will start at 7 p.m.

On Sunday, Sexsmith in La Crete starts at 1:30, Wheat Kings in Beaverlodge at 2 p.m. and Peace River in Dawson Creek at 7 p.m.

NPHL playoffs

In the North Peace Hockey League playoffs Friday, Grande Prairie is in Spirit River for Game 2. The Rangers lead 1-0 after a 6-3 home win Thursday night.

Also on Thursday, Valleyview beat High Prairie 6-3 to win their play-in series in two games. The Jets will be in Manning Saturday for Game 1 of their series.

Also on Saturday, Fox Creek will be in Falher for Game 1.

All these games will start at 8:30 p.m.

Sunday, Falher in Fox Creek starts at 6 p.m.

Dawson Creek will be in Fort St. John Monday for Game 1 of their series. Face-off at 8:30 p.m.

Storm

The Storm will visit Devon Friday and Saturday.

Face-off is at 7 p.m. for both games.

Grande Prairie is in second place in the North Division, nine pints back of Whitecourt but with three games in hand.

The Wolverines are in Drayton Valley Friday night, then off until February 14, when they visit Grande Prairie in the first of a two-game home and home set.

Wolves

Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves volleyball will host Lakeland College Friday at 6 and 8 p.m. and Saturday at 1 and 3 p.m. The women’s game will go first both days.

Men’s basketball will visit Lakeland the same days and times.

The Wolves women’s team has already been awarded two wins after the home side forfeited its two games.

Ski Hills

Nitehawk is open Friday from 5:30 to 9:30, then from 11-5 Saturday and Sunday. The Tube Zone will be open from 5-7 and 7:30-9:30 Friday, noon-2 and 2:30 to 4:30 Saturday and Sunday.

Whispering Pines Ski Hill is open Friday through Sunday from 10-4 p.m. Rental shop opens at 9 a.m.

Fairview Ski Hill is open from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays and 11-5 Saturday, Sundays, holidays and no school days.

Spring Lake Ski Hill is open Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will celebrate its grand opening with free skiing, beef on a bun and other activities.

Little Smoky Ski Area is open Friday through Sunday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Misery Mountain is open from 4-9 p.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

Powder King is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Mondays and 9-3:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
