Trump says 25 per cent tariffs are coming today for steel and aluminum imports

Feb 10, 2025 | 9:18 AM

WASHINGTON — U.S. President Donald Trump says he’ll impose 25 per cent tariffs on all steel and aluminum imports into the United States today.

Trump is scheduled to sign executive orders in the Oval Office this afternoon.

Trump told reporters about the impending duties on Air Force One as he flew to New Orleans to attend Sunday’s Super Bowl.

The president says there will be no carveouts for Canada or Mexico.

Both countries received a month-long pause on his previous threat to impose 25 per cent across-the-board tariffs and a lower 10 per cent levy on Canadian energy.

In the first Trump administration, the president also imposed duties on steel and aluminum during negotiations on the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement.
