New farm crisis line now available

Feb 12, 2025 | 2:34 PM

The National Farmer Wellness Network Crisis Line is now available to producers who may be struggling with their mental health.

The initiative from the Canadian Centre for Agricultural Wellbeing officially started on February 4.

It is being called in a news release “a transformative initiative designed to address the unique mental health challenges faced by Canada’s farmers, farm families, and agricultural workers.”

Farm Credit Canada is supporting the crisis line with $1.5 million over three years.

It is meant to offer what is called “tailored mental health support” from professionals who are licensed and trained.

The same release calls farming “one of the most demanding and high-stress occupations” and that trying to care for livestock and crops plus isolation and costs can be harmful to someone’s mental well-being.

The line is open all day, every day, at 1-866-FARMS01.
