Local ag. society wins provincial award

The Grande Prairie Regional Agricultural and Exhibition Society has earned a provincial award.

They are one of four winners of the Alberta Agricultural Societies Innovation Awards.

The Grande Prairie organization, along with the Lloydminster Agricultural Exhibition, are being saluted for putting together the annual Indigenous Celebration, a salute to First Nations culture. This showcases dancers, singers, drummers and crafters.

It also includes the Indigenous Relay Races and led to the creation of a circuit for this type of racing.

The award winners were all given a banner and framed certificate at a banquet held February 7 during the Alberta Agricultural Societies convention.

This year’s Indigenous Celebration and Relay Races are set for June 7 and 8 at Evergreen Park.
