Sports Connection surveying financial hurdles in northern Alberta youth sport
To ensure every kid in Northern Alberta has the same opportunities in youth sports, the Grande Prairie Regional and Wood Buffalo (Fort McMurray) Sports Connection have released two surveys.
The survey will ask questions regarding the “financial burdens” that come with participating in youth sports, as families try to cover the “significant cost” of travelling outside northern Alberta; accommodations, facility rentals, and meals, on top of registration.
Sports Connection says the end goal is ensuring all athletes, “regardless of their financial background and geographical location, have the same opportunity to participate in sport as anyone else.”
In the release, Acting GPRSC Executive Director, Heather Llewellyn added that their organization believe this survey will “provide valuable insights and evidence to support our advocacy efforts.”
