Feb 20, 2025 | 10:16 AM

Earthquakes Canada is reporting a seismic event occurred at approximately 8:41 a.m., on Thursday February 20, 2025.

The earthquake was thought to have shook at a magnitude of 5.2, but has since been recalculated to 4.7. It stemmed 63km NE of Grande Cache and came from 8.5 km within the earth.

People in Edson, Grande Prairie, Whitecourt, and even Prince George, B.C. have reported it being felt.

There has been no reports of damages so far.

Earthquakes Canada also reported another quake that shook from nearly the same location just over 8 hours later. It was not felt but had a magnitude of 4.0, and is believed to have been cause by an “industry-related event.”

According to Earthquakes Canada, its magnitude scale says quakes between 3.5 and 5.4 are “often felt, but rarely cause damage.” A 3.6 magnitude earthquake last week in B.C. shook the ground in Victoria, Sidney and parts of Vancouver Island. Alberta’s most recent earthquake was a 3.7 magnitude rumble last month that was felt in Lake Louise and Banff.
