$5.5 MILLION

Province investing in 19 groups to combat human trafficking

The Government of Alberta has announced funding for 19 organizations working to stop human trafficking and empower survivors.

A total of $5.5 million will go to the organizations as the province says it recognizes the need to address human trafficking and provide supports for those who have been victimized.

Public Safety Minister Mike Ellis says the government is taking a strong stance against traffickers.

“This funding will empower community-based organizations to provide specialized services that protect vulnerable individuals and disrupt the cycle of exploitation,” says Ellis. “With these community grants, we are ensuring traffickers are held accountable and survivors have the support they need from organizations such as The Alberta Centre to rebuild their lives.”

The Combatting Trafficking in Persons grant was introduced in December 2024.

The full list of grant recipients is as follows:

  • Alberta Native Friendship Centres
  • ALERT
  • Buckspring Foundation
