Hockey, curling from the weekend

Storm

The Storm split a weekend home and home series with Whitecourt.

Grande Prairie won 5-2 in Whitecourt Saturday after a 4-2 home loss Friday.

The second-place Storm are eight points back of the first-place Wolverines and three ahead of third-place Lloydminster.

The next Storm games are Friday and Saturday at home against Fort McMurray.

NWJHL

The Fort St. John Huskies have advanced to the Northwest Junior Hockey League final.

They completed a four-game sweep with a 4-2 win in Dawson Creek Sunday.

Also on Sunday, Beaverlodge downed visiting La Crete 5-3 Sunday.

The Lumber Barons hold a 3-2 series lead and will host Game 6 on Saturday.

Game 7, if needed, will be played Sunday in La Crete.

NPHL

One of the finalists in the North Peace Hockey League has been decided.

Falher beat Dawson Creek 4-1 in their semi-final series, with the clinching win coming by a score of 3-1 Saturday in Dawson Creek.

Spirit River and Manning are tied 2-2 after the Rangers beat the Comets 4-3 Saturday at home an 8-6 win Friday in Manning.

Game 5 will be played Tuesday night in Manning. Face-off time will be 8:30 p.m.

Game 6 is set for Thursday in Spirit River. Game 7, if needed, will be played Friday in Manning.

Senior Curling Provincials

Sherwood Park’s James Pahl beat Wade White of Lac La Biche 5-4 to win the Alberta Senior Men’s Curling Championship.

The final was played Sunday in Leduc.

Kurt Balderston’s Grande Prairie Curling Centre team lost 8-3 to Pahl in the semi-final after beating Dave Manser of Lethbridge 10-2 in the 3-4 game.
