Conservatives slam election of Carney, saying he is ‘just like Justin’

The Conservative Party of Canada has slammed the election of Mark Carney as Liberal leader and prime minister-designate.

The Tories, in a news release, claim that Carney is “just like Justin” and charge that his election is a sneaky trick to try to win reelection, as they call Carney “Trudeau’s top economic advisor and handpicked successor.”

The release also includes a quote from a speech Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre gave in front of 3,000 party supporters in London, Ontario on Sunday.

“Carney’s advice drove up taxes, housing costs and food prices, while he personally profited from moving billions of dollars and thousands of jobs out of Canada to the United States,” Poilievre told the crowd.

“Working for Trudeau, Carney made Canada weaker and poorer.”

The Conservatives also go on to refer to the new Liberal leader as “Carbon Tax Carney” and criticize him for not disclosing his financial interests.

The Tories also charge that while Carney was helping to kill pipeline projects in Canada, he was investing in pipelines in the Middle East and Latin America and that he blames Canadians for high grocery prices.

Carney said in his victory speech after winning the Liberal leadership that his government would scrap both the carbon tax and the changes to the capital gains tax inclusion rate.
