Playoff action is either coming to a close or starting up for local hockey leagues around the Peace Region.

NPHL Pirates win in six games

The Falher Pirates are championship winners following a shutout Game 6 over the Manning Comets on Saturday night.

The Pirates beat the Comets 5-0 at home to claim the Campbell Cup.

This is the first time that the Pirates have won the league championship in 13 years after falling short the last two seasons in a Game 7.

Grande Prairie Storm win first two at home

The first round of playoffs in the AJHL kicked off over the weekend for the Grande Prairie Storm.

They hosted the Lloydminster Bobcats for Game 1 and 2 at Bonnetts Energy Centre, winning 7-3 Friday and 8-2 Saturday.

The Bobcats will host Game 3 Tuesday and Game 4 Wednesday. Both will start at 7:00 p.m.

Fort St. John Huskies take all three weekend games

The Strike Group North West Junior Hockey League is also in their championship final series, with the La Crete Lumber Barons and Fort St. John Huskies battling it out.

The teams played three games over the weekend, with the Huskies winning all of them on home ice. The Huskies won 3-2 Friday, 8-4 Saturday, and 5-1 Sunday.

Fort St. John now leads the series 3-2. Game 6 will be played this coming Saturday in La Crete at 7:00 p.m. If Game 7 is needed, it will go Sunday at 1:30 p.m. also in La Crete.
