Town of Fox Creek launches Mycological Research project to reduce wildfire risk

The Town of Fox Creek has launched an initiative aimed at reducing wildfire fuels.
The Fox Creek Mycological Research project uses local wood-decomposing fungi to accelerate decomposition in fire-prone areas and diseased trees before the wood becomes fuel for wildfires.
This should result in keeping the forest floor hydrated and will improve forest health overall.
The project will unfold over three years, with year one focused around laboratory research, identifying and isolating the most effective fungal species of wood decomposition.
