GPPS Community Standards Unit apprehends Canada-wide wanted man

Mar 28, 2025 | 10:30 AM

The Grande Prairie Police Service’s newly established Community Standards Unit has successfully apprehended a man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant.

On the morning of March 26, GPPS officers on patrol observed a traffic violation involving a taxi in the downtown area and initiated a traffic stop, where a male passenger exited on foot.

The driver of the taxi reported the suspect instructed him to ignore police commands and had assaulted him.

After a foot pursuit, CSU officers apprehended the suspect, and transferred him to the RCMP, where it was confirmed, the man was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for failing to comply with conditions of his parole.

The CSU was launched earlier this month to address social disorder in key areas of the City of Grande Prairie.

GPPS Superintendent John Respet says the officer’s swift response in this situation highlights the effectiveness of the CSU and underscores the importance of proactively enhancing public safety.
