GPES encouraging residents to report Vehicle for Hire safety concerns

Mar 31, 2025 | 12:00 PM

Grande Prairie Enforcement Services is reminding residents if they have any concerns regarding vehicle for hire passenger safety, to contact the City of Grande Prairie.

Last month, a Peace Officer pulled over a taxi that had been speeding 101 km/h in a 60 km/h zone with a passenger inside the vehicle.

“Driving companies provide a valuable service in our community, giving residents a variety of options for transportation, but it’s important those options are safe,” – Peace Officer Sergeant Bransen Balfour.

“If you have concerns about a vehicle for hire in our community, please reach out with as much information as possible so they can be addressed.” – Sergeant Bransen Balfour.

Vehicles for hire like taxis, ride share, limousine and shuttle services, are licensed by the city and are governed by the municipal Vehicle for Hire Bylaw.

Infractions that can be reported to GPES include; speeding and running red lights, not displaying a chauffeur permit, and not having proper signal identifying the vehicle as a taxi inside or outside.

To report an offence involving a Vehicle for Hire, contact Grande Prairie Enforcement Services at es_contact@gppolice.com or 780-830-5790. Call 9-1-1 in an emergency.
