City dust suppression applications now open

Apr 1, 2025 | 12:00 PM

Until April 25, residents and businesses within the City of Grande Prairie will be able to apply for dust suppression treatment if they are located near a gravel road.

Those residing in rural service areas may be able to request dust suppression and control treatment for gravel roads in sections of 100 metres or more.

The fee for the application is $440 for residential properties, and $660 for commercial properties, per 100 metres of road.

Engineering and Transportation Director Wade Nellis said in a news release; “Dust suppression improves visibility and enhances air quality.”

“To ensure our crews can schedule treatment for gravel roads in your area, please submit your application before the April 25 deadline.” – Nellis

The treatment applied to the gravel roads is calcium chloride, as is done on an as-needed basis in the spring and summer months to help reduce gravel dust.

The City says while every effort is made to ensure the treatment is effective, the performance of it can depend on factors like weather conditions and refunds are not available once it has been applied to the road.
