Town of Grimshaw Council approves joining Mid-Sized Towns Mayor’s Caucus

Grimshaw is joining the Mid-Sized Towns Mayor’s Caucus.

At their March meeting, Town of Grimshaw Council voted to join the caucus, a group that advocates for Alberta towns.

Mayor Wendy Wald says the group specifically help towns with populations between 1,000 and 14,999.

“These municipalities decided to go together and join as one to have a voice with the government,” Wald says. “Saying that sometimes the way that our funding is given out, that sometimes there’s more needs, there’s extra things under our capital budgets.”

Wald says joining the Caucus may prove beneficial if Grimshaw experiences a population boom.

“At this time there maybe nothing that we need at this point,” she says. “But in the future, if we have a growth spurt or something like that. We may have needs for more infrastructure dollars.

She says membership into the organization costs $250 annually.

“And then after that, it’s quite simple,” she says. “Most of it is going to be online. So, we’ll have online meetings, and there won’t be much cost to any of the municipalities.”

Wald says she looks forward to learning more about the organization.
