GPPS cruisers now patrolling Grande Prairie

Apr 4, 2025 | 7:00 AM

Residents may have noticed new Grande Prairie Police Service squad cars patrolling the City.

GPPS Chief, Dwayne Lakusta says residents can “expect to see more of our black and white cruisers proudly patrolling our streets regularly.”

“Our goal is to have our entire fleet of marked vehicles operational by the end of the year.”

Four of these new vehicles are now operating out of the Grande Prairie RCMP detachment; exclusively being used by GPPS’s thirteen officers for patrols and other policing duties.

Chief Lakusta called this “a critical step forward in our effort to ensure a visible, accessible, and responsive police service.”

With an increase in visibility, GPPS hopes this will lead to further successes in community safety and security.

However, in the release, the City did want to clarify that RCMP still have primary jurisdiction in Grande Prairie.
