No Girl Left Behind taking place Saturday in Grande Prairie

Apr 4, 2025 | 6:00 AM

An event meant to empower girls and women is set for Saturday in Grande Prairie.

‘No Girl Left Behind’ will have separate sessions for women and girls where they will hear various presentations. The theme is Self Worth and Confidence.

Sherwood Park-based singer Robin Cisek will be one of the presenters for the girl’s sessions.

“I believe my music has given me a great platform to share positive and empowering messages through music and though speaking. It’s always been important for me to empower the next generation of women and that’s why I decided to connect with No Girl Left Behind.”

“Me, personally, I would love to see more women and girls who are confident and see the value in themselves.”

Cisek says she would also love to see more women running their own businesses and “sharing their voices in powerful positions.”

She adds she has had face struggles with health issues while pursuing her career.

“I was diagnosed with a genetic condition called thoracic outlet syndrome, so I still have some hard days, but music has been an awesome outlet for me to reflect on my mental health while I was going through those health issues and stuff, so I do talk about that a lot when I share my music and have speaking events too.”

Cisek adds she would speak to both groups as adult women need support and communities too.

“I think that I see younger girls struggle a lot and I feel like my music, being pop music, really reaches those girls. That’s my main priority is to inspire those girls to chase their dreams. I see so much value in the older women too.”

As for her own life, Cisek says she has what she calls “an incredible support system,” especially during her health issues.

“I’m also a Metis artist, so Metis women are very strong and very confident, so I’ve been very lucky to have those kind of role models in my life from a very young age.”

Cisek says she has been spending time over the last year mentoring women and other artists in the music business.

“I think that a lot of women in music, they think that it’s unattainable to have a full-time career in music and I want to inspire women to think otherwise.”

“There are a lot of things that are kind of hidden, kind of gate-keeped, from a lot of women in music and I want to see more women be successful in their craft.”

Cisek says she has also been teaching herself production, so future work will feature both her own.
