Wildfire hazard burning to commence around Sturgeon Lake April 7

Apr 7, 2025 | 7:00 AM

Wildfire mitigation efforts around Sturgeon Lake are set to begin Monday, April 7.

Alberta Wildfire and the Sturgeon Lake Fire Department will be burning hazardous grass in the community of Sturgeon Lake Creek Nation and will continue until all burn units have been treated.

The primary burning window will be 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. weather-depending, with the work expected to wrap up in early May.

Additional crews will be near the highway burning the 2024 FireSmart project piles when conditions are wet or unfavourable for grass burning.
