Fort St. John RCMP reporting toxic drugs circulating area

Apr 10, 2025 | 1:32 PM

Fort St. John RCMP are alerting the public that there appears to be a toxic drug being distributed in the area.

Between April 3 and April 9, Mounties were called to the scene of three sudden deaths where the cause was believed to be consistent with an opioid overdose.

This comes after health advisory for the Northern Health region was issued in late March regarding a synthetic opiate known as isotonitazene which was found to be as potent or more potent then fentanyl.

Fort St. John RCMP are reporting on those suspected overdoes, the same day as the health advisory expires, April 10.

RCMP warns that isotonitazene is not detected on fentanyl test strips and the potency of each street pill can vary significantly.

Drug users in the area are being reminded to never use alone and to carry Narcan or Naloxone kits, which are available for free at local clinics
