The Grande Prairie Wolverines Adapted Sports sledge hockey team recently came home from a big provincial tournament with a bronze medal.

The club only attends one tournament a year, the Matt Cook Western Canada Sledge Hockey Tournament. This year’s edition took place April 3-6 in Calgary.

The Wolverines recorded wins over teams from Medicine Hat and Edmonton and losses to teams from Calgary and Leduc in the opening round.

They then beat that same team from Edmonton 3-2 in the bronze medal game.

Wolverines’ officials say their club is the smallest in its division.

The bronze medal-winning team from Grande Prairie includes 12 players; some with disabilities, others who are able-bodied.
