Local GP hockey product representing Canada at U18’s

A Grande Prairie-born hockey player will defend Canada’s gold at the 2025 IIHF U18 Men’s Championship in Texas.

Lukas Sawchyn, who along with his brother Gracyn, plays for the Edmonton Oil Kings, and will don the red and white when Canada takes on Slovakia today, at 2 p.m. PT (Thursday, April 24)

Most recently, Sawchyn was ranked 69th among North American hockey prospects by the NHL Central Scouting, up from 119th, and was nominated for the WHL’s Rookie of the Year award.

He finished this season with 55 points in the regular season, thanks to 15 goals and 40 assists.
