Peace River Health Centre ED exposed to another confirmed Measles case

Apr 26, 2025 | 1:43 PM

Alberta Health Services says additional cases of Measles have been identified in the North Zone; with at least one of the confirmed cases in a public space while infectious.

AHS says now anyone who was in the Peace River Community Health Centre ED on either April 19, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., or April 21, from 3:30 a.m. to 7 a.m. may have been exposed to Measles.

A statement from AHS on what residents should do was provided in the release; “Anyone who attended these locations at these times, who was born in or after 1970 and has less than two documented doses of measles-containing vaccine, is at risk for developing measles. They should self-monitor for symptoms of measles and are strongly encouraged to review their immunization records.”

If residents develop symptoms of Measles, they are directed to stay home and call Health Link at 811, before visiting any healthcare facility or provider.

Measles symptoms include:

  • Fever of 38.3° C or higher; and
  • Cough, runny nose and/or red eyes; and
  • A rash that appears 3 to 7 days after fever starts, usually beginning behind the ears and on the face and spreading down to the body and then to the arms and legs. The rash appears red and blotchy on lighter skin colours. On darker skin colours, it can appear purple or darker than the skin around it, or it might be hard to see.

With Measles “currently circulating the North Zone,” AHS does suggest infants ranging from six to eleven months and people born before 1970 who haven’t been immunized are both “recommended and eligible” for additional immunization.
