Kiskatinaw Wildfire update #23

Jun 11, 2025 | 1:12 PM

Another update has been provided on the Kiskatinaw Wildfire.

Yesterday (Tuesday, June 10), heavy smoke limited visibility and operations, so a planned ignition was put off. However, helicopter bucketing operations persisted, dropping “450,000 litres of water per hour during peak weather conditions to suppress the wildfire.”

ATCO crews also turned off natural gas to 90 homes inside and outside the Kiskatinaw River Wildfire evacuation area, as a precautionary measure.

Today, forecasted winds are expected to drive the blaze towards “dense coniferous trees, potentially increasing fire activity.”

To combat the spread of the fire, crews will work on the northeast side of the blaze, attempting planned ignitions to remove unburnt fuel, while dozer crews construct a fire guard.

At this time, the wildfire is 21,679 hectares in size, and evacuation orders and alerts issued by the County remain in effect.

An Air Quality Warning also remains in effect for most of the Peace region, but according to the Peace Airshed Zone Association, the Air Health Quality Index is much better than yesterday, now sitting at 4.0, compared to 10+.
