Wapiti Nordic closing trails until conditions improve

Wapiti Nordic has closed it’s cross-coutnry ski trails until further notice due to the recent warm temperatures.

They said the warm weather has created unsafe conditions, and they are putting safety first.

In the meantime, Wapiti Nordic says snowshoeing is still an option, but does caution residents about icy conditions.

Grande Prairie has already broken three historical daily high temperature records this week, most recently, setting a new record for Jan. 14, with a high of 8.7 degrees, and then both Jan. 10 and Jan. 13 with a high of 7.3 degrees.

Forecasted temperatures heading into the weekend won’t see any massive change, as Environment Canada predicts temperatures ranging from 5 degrees to minus 5 degrees.
