GPFA wildfire danger level still very high

Jun 1, 2026 | 2:06 PM

The wildfire danger level in the Grande Prairie Forest Area remains very high.

Alberta Wildfire says the ongoing dry and hot temperatures make it easy for a blaze to start and spread.

However, at this time, no new fires have been reported, and as of today (Monday, June 1), crews have fully extinguished the Kistatinaw River wildfire; the blaze first started in burning in June of last year and according to a scan done by BC Wildfire, consumed 3,574 hectares of forest on Alberta’s side.

Since the start of this year, the region has seen 39 wildfires, burning 16 hectares.

At this time, a fire advisory remains in effect.

More information regarding the current wildfire situation can be found on the province’s website.
