Greenivew Industrial Gateway receives second ever Industrial Zone designation

The Greenview Industrial Gateway (GIG) is taking another step towards “economic growth and major investment attraction,” after receiving an Industrial Zone designation.

Grant Hunter, Minister of Environment and Protected Areas, explained the benefits of the designation; “(It) offers an opportunity to attract billions in investment and create good-paying jobs by reducing duplication and red tape while maintaining Alberta’s strong environmental standards and supporting responsible economic growth.”

The province adds that the Industrial Zone also provides companies with a “clearer path to plan and advance major projects.”

Future projects already planned for the 2,000-acre site include the world’s largest data centre, Wonder Valley, a carbon-neutral ammonia and methanol production facility, and a petrochemical facility.

Now, with this designation, the province is hoping to provide even “greater certainty for investors, communities and Indigenous partners.”

With this being Alberta’s only second designated Industrial Zone, MLA for Central Peace Notley Todd Lowen said it will have a lasting impact on local communities; “it’s a big step forward for the region and for the people who call it home.”

“The Greenview Industrial Gateway is going to bring good jobs and major investment right here, and this designation gives companies the confidence they need to build in a part of Alberta with so much to offer.”
