Missing Beaverlodge children located safely following almost 3 month long search

Alberta RCMP Serious Crimes Branch has confirmed that a missing six-year-old and four-year old have been found safe.

Inspector Breanne Brown says they were located in West Kelowna, BC, after two and a half months of investigative efforts.

“These investigative efforts included extensive searches of several rural properties and ongoing coordination among RCMP specialized units in Alberta, British Columbia, Northwest Territories and the Yukon.”

Brown says this investigation demonstrates the value of a national police force.

“Behind every RCMP officer is a broader network of specialized expertise, investigative support, and resources that can be drawn upon as an investigation evolves.”

A 35-year-old female and her 35-year-old male partner, have been arrested and charged with contravening a custody order.

Staff Sgt. Derrick Gladdish says videos posted by adults showing the boys safe and healthy did not dissuade the police from their search.

“From policing investigative protocols, we are always looking for proof of well-being, and we were asking for that from very early on,” Gladdish says. “They were trying to rally support from their friends, family, and support network. But that’s not something that the police were focused on or concerned about. Our concern was recovering the children.”

The suspects’ bail hearing will take place in BC, with investigators seeking detention and return to Alberta to appear before the courts.

Gladdish says accusations of abuse directed at a party involved in the custody order have been investigated by a separate entity and deemed unfounded.

“I believe that’s what the courts took into account when they made the decision for the custody,” he says. “That doesn’t come into our factor as far as the major crimes unit and our investigation. The order was issued, and the children were not brought to the meet as per the order, and that’s where we got involved.”

There will be no further details from the RCMP at this time.
