Crown asking for 75-years in prison for Red Deer men

Jan 22, 2018 | 11:37 AM

The Crown is asking for life in prison with no chance of parole for 75 years at a sentencing hearing underway in Red Deer for two men convicted of killing one of the men’s parents and sister on a central Alberta farm.

Jason Klaus and Joshua Frank were convicted earlier this month of first-degree murder in the 2013 deaths of Gordon Klaus, his wife Sandra and his daughter Monica.

The Crown says it believes it’s appropriate to seek consecutive sentences.

Klaus’s lawyer argues such sentences are usually handed out for what he calls murders with — quote — “truly horrifying facts” — which he says are not present in this case.
