Storm tinker with roster prior to cut down deadline

Dec 5, 2018 | 6:17 AM

The Grande Prairie Storm made some noise ahead of the December 1st cut down deadline this past Saturday.

The first move the club made involved Tyler Petrie traded to the Humboldt Broncos of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League for Future Considerations.

Petrie played in 4 games with the Storm after being acquired from the Calgary Canucks and went pointless.

The next move the Storm made saw 20-year-old forward Jerad Power traded to the BCHL’s Coquitlam Express.

Storm General Manager Mark Bomersback expressed to EverythingGP just how tough it was to part ways with Power.

“It’s never easy trading a guy who we traded for last year and who has come in, scored some goals, and was our Assistant Captain. At the end of the day other teams have needs and it needs to work out for them too. Coquitlam wanted Jerad and we thought the deal worked out for us too.”

Power had 11 goals and 8 assists with the Storm so far this season.

In addition to trading Power, the Storm acquired 20-year-old forward Noah Corson from the QJHL.

In 20 games in the QJHL this season, Corson had compiled 42 points.

“He’s going to bring something different,” stated Bomersback. “He is going to bring some grit. He’s got skill. He’s a 20-year-old, so he has been around. He played in the Quebec Major Junior League. He is going to come in and help be that guy who stands up for his teammates. He will go hard to the net and he is just going to add to our core guys already.”

With the trio of trades prior to the December 1st cut down deadline, the Storm sit at 23 carded players.

Which means the club has two cards available to them if they would like to add prior to the January 10th CJHL trade deadline.

The Grande Prairie Storm will look to try and get back in the win column Friday night when they hit the road to Camrose for a meeting with the Kodiaks.
