96th Dawson Creek Exhibition & Stampede starts today

Aug 8, 2018 | 5:30 AM

This is Day 1 of the 96th Dawson Creek Exhibition and Stampede.

Dawson Creek marks the final Western Chuckwagon Association stop of the year.

Lane Kimble leads the season standings, followed by Ron Bolin, Eric Rever, and Dean Dreger.

The Mile Zero city is the second-last stop for the WPCA circuit.

Kurt Bensmiller leads the standings so far, followed by Vern Nolin, Stompede champion Evan Salmond, and Grande Prairie’s Kirk Sutherland.

The pro rodeo will start with the slack performance tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. BC time. Main performances at 1:15 p.m. BC time Friday through Sunday.

Earlier this year, Exhibition organizers were told some buildings had to be taken down after they were inspected for insurance and safety purposes.

That included four horse barns, an office building, 4-H building, an outdoor stage, several booths, two stores, and a couple of bathrooms.

Some of the buildings were close to 60 years old.
