U of A Pandas bus involved in minor crash on QEII

Nov 25, 2018 | 9:10 AM

Everyone is okay following a crash involving a bus which was carrying the University of Alberta Pandas hockey team.

Wetaskiwin RCMP say the collision happened at about 1:30 a.m. on Saturday morning in the northbound lanes of the QEII. The Pandas bus collided with a semi-tractor, but both vehicles remained upright and neither left the roadway.

Two passengers on the bus were transported hospital with minor injuries, and were released a short time later.

The team was heading home following a game in Calgary against the Dinos.

In a statement, the university says, “The safety and well-being of our student-athletes is our only focus at this time, and we are working with the University of Alberta’s Dean of Students to ensure the necessary support for the student-athletes is available.

“We ask that the media respect the privacy of the Pandas student-athletes and staff at this time.”

The Pandas game Saturday night in Edmonton against Calgary was postponed.

RCMP add that neither weather nor road conditions appear to be a factor. No charges are anticipated.
