Saskatchewan team told to remove crest honouring player before next season

NORTH BATTLEFORD, Sask. — Players on a Saskatchewan hockey team who were hoping to continue wearing a crest to honour a teammate who committed suicide have to remove it from their jerseys before next season.

The Battlefords Barons wanted to wear the crest for the next three years in memory of Ashley Lascelle, who was 15 when he died in January.

The Battlefords Minor Hockey Association made the decision on Tuesday.

The crest idea was created by Konnor Snyder, a friend and teammate of Lascelle.
