Election call marks end of Drysdale’s time as MLA

He says he doesn’t miss campaigning and is glad to sit back and watch.

The provincial election call marked the end of 11 years as GP Wapiti MLA for Wayne Drysdale.

He says a lot of things stand out for him from that time.

“The people you meet and the places you go and (the) interesting meetings you get in the middle of. It’s not quite done, but I know it will be, the new Grande Prairie hospital will be a big accomplishment (along with) some of the highway work up there. It’ll never end, there’s still more to do.”

One thing he regrets not getting done is seeing a new hospital built in Beaverlodge.

“I was close three or four times. I’ve been working at it right until the end hoping we could still get it done. That’s one thing that I never got to do was to get the new Beaverlodge health facility done.”

Drysdale already has a new job. He has been named a senior vice president with Nauticol Energy, the company planning to build a $2-billion methanol plant south of Grande Prairie. Drysdale thinks this project will be great for the community.

“It’s going to create a lot of jobs. The thing I like, we’ve got a lot of natural gas in the region. We ship it out for just about nothing. We’ll take some natural resources we have and actually add value to it.”

Drysdale served as a PC and UCP MLA. He also served in cabinet as the Minister of Transportation and the Minister of Infrastructure.
