Huskies hold heads high following trip to Provincials

The Fort St.John Huskies and JDA Kings of the North West Junior Hockey League finished up their campaigns over the weekend as both clubs competed at Junior B Provincials.

Unfortunately for both clubs neither of them qualified for the playoff round as they both finished with 1-2 records.

President of the Huskies Mike Bacco thought his team played well despite just the one win at the tournament.

“I thought we played pretty well. It’s a game of bounces. In our first game we were holding our sticks pretty tight and we loosened up in the second half. The second game we played pretty well, we got some bounces and we buried our chances and then in the third game we just ran out of gas.”

Despite the 1-2 record at the Provincial Championship, Bacco notes this year was very satisfying for the organization as they defended their league title.

What made this years win a little bit sweeter according to Bacco, was how competitive the league was which made it a battle each and every night.

“This year is the tightest I have ever seen the league. You have the first two rounds of the playoffs go the distance. We got by Peace River and Grande Prairie got by Dawson Creek. If the bounces go the other way, we could have had a Peace River and Dawson Creek final. It is fantastic to see the league this tight.”

Bacco concluded by saying with the league as competitive as it was, it could potentially help with future growth.
