Apr 29, 2019 | 6:07 PM

A horse with local connections won the first-ever race run at the new Century Mile Race Track near Edmonton.

Born In A Breeze won $15,000 in the five-and-a-half furlong sprint. Teepee Creek’s Tom Rycroft is the trainer. Rycroft, Dale Stark, and Lewis Mailer are the co-owners. Stark is also from Teepee Creek.

Trooper John, trained by Tom’s son Tim, ran second in the same race.

Tim also trained the winner in Race 8, a horse named Stone Carver. Mr. Pucci, trained by Grande Prairie’s Darcy Hawkes and owned by Dianne Delaney also of the Swan City, ran second in the same race.

The three horses that belong to the 2019 Evergreen Park Racing Club will soon start racing at Century Mile after starting the season at Turf Paradise in Phoenix.
