3D Charity Hockey & Soccer tournament surpasses 1 million dollars raised from annual event

The 19th annual 3D Charity Hockey and Soccer tournament took place at the end of April and overall the event was a massive success.

Chair of the tournament Darren Foley shared that athletes from across the Peace Region took part in the three day event.

“I think we had just over 400 kids from all over the Peace come and play in both the hockey and soccer tournaments and with all the volunteers it definitely equates to another successful year.”

The initial idea for the tournament came in 1999 when a student at the Grande Prairie Composite High School needed a heart transplant and the family had a difficult time keeping up with mounting medical expenses.

Money raised from the event helps students with serious illness.

“We are going to be around the $100,000 mark this year,” shared Foley.

“For the 2nd year in a row (raising $100,000) I think that pushes us over $1,000,000 raised.”

With the charity surpassing $1,000,000 raised this year, it sets up for back to back milestones for the organization.

Next year they will be celebrating their 20th anniversary and as Foley stated to EverythingGP, they have some big plans in store as part of the celebration.
